Celtics Title Town

We've seen this story before. The Celtics singing players mid-season. P.J Brown ring a bell? Can Kenyon Martin be that guy? It''s not after the all-star break (when Brown signed in 08'). The veterans are pushing for Martin. Like they pushed for Wallace in 09'

But it's time for the Celtics to add a player that can rebound, and play hard nose defense, and Martin perhaps can add that. Martin isn't in his prime, but he's still better than Darko, and Collins. Martin can score as well. He's got a jumper, and he can still get up, and dunk pretty well.

With Darko leaning towards leaving the Celtics. It makes sense. If I had a choice between Gortat, or Martin. I'd pick Gortat, but at what cost? I wouldn't trade Lee, or Bradley for Gortat.But Gortat is young, and he's 7 feet. Plus he can score outside, and inside, and his defense/reboudning  is highly needed.

So I'd take Martin because he's cheap, and he cost the Celtics nothing. I believe Martin should be a Celtic. He's maybe a piece that the Celtics are missing, or a piece that you try to jam in the wrong spot on a puzzle.

Danny seems to have a plan on every turn, or a signing at least. When Dooling retired, Darko was actually signed, and who could forget about Barbosa coming to town right before the season started. If Darko leaves. I like Danny has a plan.

BOSTON'S NEW BACKUP PLAN?: If Milicic elects to depart, it's unlikely the Celtics will see much in the way of cap relief, even if a buyout is facilitated. Boston stood at $71.9 million in committed salary at the start of the season and is already dangerously by DownloadNSave">close to the $74.3 million tax apron it cannot exceed after utilizing the full value of the mid-level exception this past offseason. Milicic is on a minimum contract, earning $1.3 million, of which the Celtics pay $854,000 with the league picking up the rest of the tab. When Keyon Dooling retired this summer, Boston facilitated a $400,000 buyout (and he now works for the team's front office).

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge has previously suggested the bi-annual exception is not in play this season, but Boston seemingly could add another minimum-contract player to fill that 15th spot. Given Rivers' tight rotation and Boston's limited funds, it would seemingly benefit the team to sit tight until later in the season to fill that roster spot. With limited wiggle room, the Celtics probably only have one chance to add another body to the roster this season and, without an immediate need for a big to replace Milicic if he departs, the team could wait to see who emerges on the free-agent market later in the season when their needs might change.
