Celtics Beat Post New Entry

Doc not pleased with Rondo's choices?

Doc Rivers said the 25-foot step-back 3-pointer that Rajon Rondo jacked up at the end of the fourth quarter wasn't the ideal look Boston wanted with a chance to beat the Wiz in regulation on Wednesday evening. Did I hate the game winning attempt by Rajon? Not really, it was a clean chance to win. Pierce has jacked many of those in his days, so I didn't mind Rondo being aggressive. Rondo was a clutch player in the 4th, and Over time period. He was feeling confident so I loved Rondo taking the chance.

"The one that I called was the [isolation with 26 seconds], I wanted a 2-for-1," said Rivers. "I told him -- that was a bad execution too because he got forced to the sideline and that way he couldn’t go as quick as we wanted him to go. But I think it was 34 seconds, or whatever, so we felt like ‘Let’s go 2-for-1 here’ and it was a quick ISO for him. And I told him to shoot it quick, the first one.

"The second one, it was bad execution again, honestly. It was a pin-down for Paul, [or] it was supposed to be. Paul, we wanted at the elbow and he was there, I thought Rondo could’ve thrown it to him, then JET [Terry] was coming off the weak side. I thought Rondo made up his mind to go for it. I’m fine with that, but I didn’t like the execution.”

Rondo had an MVP performance Wednesday night against the Wiz. He had 18 points, and 14 assists. He had three steals that seemed to come when they were needed most. Rondo was 7-of-11 from the field, and he was making his jumper like he was born to do it. Rondo took big strides in his leadership role, and Doc hopefully will acknowledge that.

I don't think that was an mvp performance. In fact, I think it took Wilcox to get Rondo going. I think Wilcox's return may help Rondo a lot. I did notice from replays that Rondo's D seemed a little more serious. I did like Rondo taking the big shot though. He's our best player. he should be taking that shot

In general, this team is not running the floor aggressively, not playing aggressively on defense, not attacking the basket, not consistently anyway, and you really have to put it down to Rondo in the end.

Rondo was very active I thought on the defensive end. His best performance. 3 steals, and two other deflections. I thought it was MVP just for the fact that he made big shots and he missed some.

I hear you Greg. But I guess I would say that KG was the MVP last night, and that there is another level Rondo needs to get to. That said, he has certainly delivered on some of the expectations people had. He is shooting better. He is playing consistently. He is taking responsibility. He is taking big shots. What amazes me is that I don't think he's really playing that well yet, and yet he is leading the league in assists, and is certainly playing like an allstar.

But Jrue Holiday will be a huge test.

I agree KG was the MVP last night without question. I think Shawn said it best in his other post. I feel cheated that he can't play more.

I feel cheated that Rondo hasn't stepped up the way KG did last night. That said, I feel sure that he will, that he's working his way up to it.

But Rondo, it begins with defense. Defense, defense, defense.
