Rondo in a game of numbers

Posted by shawn cassidy on November 6, 2012 at 11:50 PM

If sufferings are lessons, they unfold a magnificent vision before us. Obscure calculations how to offset, with formulas, the effect of your actions. Factor in the overwhelming sum of the situation still we converge and subtract, we divide the ultimate problem. One of Rondo's ultimate math issues may be his league leading 41.7 minutes played through three games. Although were just three games in. It's a concern of the Celtics.Doc spoke about this Monday during practice.

"I’m concerned, not as far as him getting tired, but I don’t want him to save himself on the floor," said Rivers. "There’s a minutes number for him, we don’t know what it is for him yet -- we’ll figure it out -- where he can play his minutes at full pace, instead of knowing he’s going to be on the floor too long and then he starts pacing himself. We need him to be a fast, quick, aggressive player."

"I think [his minutes number] in the 39s [or] 38s," said Rivers. "Not much lower than 40, but it’s in that area."

Rondo is one of the best players in the game, and he plays the biggest role for his team. Durant, and Harden also play 41 minutes per game, and hell these guys are young in the middle of their prime. I personally would like to see Rondo around 38 minutes. I think Rondo has played fairly well, but the bar is so high for him. He's a potential MVP,and we need him to find his inner James Harden.

It's the rest pattern that is key, I think.

If we can be creative with KG's rest pattern, why is it unthinkable to be creative with Rondo's?

Doc can,and should figure it out. I say rest him when Pierce is playing. Doc in the past has done that, but this year it seems like he's not. Do that, and Pierce can pass the ball.

I agree. Pierce can run the team while Rondo is sitting. But I think it's important to rest Rondo for a few minutes at a time more often.
