Celtics Morning Joe: Terry's role still undefined

Posted by shawn cassidy on October 13, 2012 at 6:00 AM

When the Celtics signed Jason Terry it seemed like a done deal that Terry would come off the bench. But it seems like Doc is evaluating the starting lineup daily. The beauty of Terry has been his love for the 6th man role, but he's also willing to do whatever it takes to win, and if starting for the Celtics is that role, than Terry will be happy to carry that assignment out.

"Oh yeah, either way. It doesn't matter," Terry said. "Whatever my role is here on this team, it's all about winning. I'm able to play both, coming off the bench or starting, and I'm very comfortable in both roles."

"[Terry] could start. I don't know. What I prefer is whatever I think is going to be the best fit for our team," Rivers said Friday. "And we've got to still remember that Avery [Bradley is] not in, so we may start Jason Terry and use him like Kevin [Garnett], for the first five minutes, just to get him some minutes, and then bring him back in. We may start Courtney [Lee]. So, there's a lot of ways we can go with it."

I would like to see Terry off the bench, but maybe Doc wants Bradley back in the starting lineup when he returns in December, and perhaps Lee's role has  meant a spot on the bench. Maybe Doc doesn't want to mess with Lee like that, and Terry would be able to go back to the bench with ease. The Celtics have plenty of depth, and I believe Doc will do what's best for the team. Doc would still have enough fire power off the bench if he decides to use Bass off the bench along side Green. The only thing  that doesn't make sense about Terry starting is the fact that Rondo doesn't have a solid backup.

I figured Terry would fill some of that role. Unless Doc works on a 5-5-5 plan for Terry as well. The ultimate goal is to keep guys fresh, and ready  to attack teams without extreme depth. I've seen this quoted on this site by some. "Going at teams in waves." Let's get that done Doc.
