Celtics Blog Post New Entry

Get well Russell

Posted by shawn cassidy on September 10, 2012 at 10:25 PM

According to Peter Vecsey, #6 had to cancel an appearance in Long Island yesterday and today as he recovers from two heart procedures over the last month. I truly hope for the best for Russell. Russell is the greatest winner in NBA history. He's also an after thought for many Celtics fans. Many know the name, but do they understand his pride, and passion  for life, and for the game of basketball. It took him over 4 decades to get a statue in Boston.

Get well big fella, may your smile warm us  for another day.

Why should he have a statue? There are too many stupid statues. At least it's better than giving someone a statue for going out and killing a bunch of people, but doing it in a uniform, so it's considered a good thing to do ...

But if we want to do a statue, how about a statue to Mel King in his dashiki? Mel King on the Occupy Movement:

" But you have to understand and lift up the fact that you have the right of revolution... the right to alter and to change. And that you are standing on [the shoulders] of the folks who fought the Revolutionary War. Okay? Remember that. You're acting like the forepeople-we brag about what they did. You're saying, "Wow, we learnt from them. They had a revolution... and we've got one as well." So I'm here and I'm excited principally because I believe very much in the fact that we all need to be part of a revolution... because we deserve the best of what this planet offers. "

Let's do a statue to Mel King.

I love Russell though. GET WELL RUSS! Boston loves you, and appreciates you, more than you will ever know.
