State of the Celtics: Pierce over/under, and what's Chalmers thinking?

Over/Under: Paul Pierce- By Chris Forsberg | ESPNBoston.com

Minutes per game: 32

* Forsberg: Under. His age will exceed his jersey number before the regular season tips off (Pierce turns 35 on Oct. 13) and, given the nagging bumps and bruises that have plagued him in recent seasons, its seems more important than ever for the Celtics to exercise the same sort of caution with Pierce as they do with Kevin Garnett. With a healthy Jeff Green and the potential to get some minutes out of Courtney Lee at the 3, Pierce's minutes have a good chance to dip this season with the goal of keeping him healthy.

Doc needs to rest Paul this season. He's over used Pierce season after season. With Green ready to go. It's time for Doc to get this done. During the playoffs play Pierce whatever. But the Celtics need Pierce in one piece once the playoffs start.

* Payne: Over. The C's are reloaded, and Rajon Rondo owns the team now, but Pierce, even at his age, is still the team's best all-around offensive player. He'll still finish with an average between 18 and 19 points.

Pierce will need to work with Rondo. More so than any other year. When they put their heads together. Only greatness comes from that. With Allen gone, I think it should be easier for Paul, and Rondo.

Chalmers asked about Rondo's claim that he's the best point guard in the NBA

Peter Emerick: “Rajon Rondo recently said that he’s the NBA’s top point guard. What are your thoughts on that, and where do you think you rank among all the point guards in the NBA?”

Mario Chalmers: “He’s not the best, but he’s in the top five. There are a lot of great point guards in the league, Deron Williams, Chris Pauland Steve Nash. There are a lot of great guards in the NBA so for him to say he’s the best is a pretty bold statement. I’d say that I [Mario Chalmers] am in the front end of the top 10.”

Chalmers has no reason to say anything. Mario is one of the lowest ranked point guards in the NBA. Rondo can use this for motivation, or he doesn't need it. Either way, it's a match up we want to see. Chalmers will cry for help, when Rondo runs circles around Mario.

Pierce, pass the Celtics throne to Rondo. It's his time more than ever.

Chalmers should have just shut up.
I'd say that what HE said is a pretty bold statement.
He is in the front end of the top10? so he doen't rank himself very far from Rondo? Maybe that's why James and Wade were the one to guard Rondo in the ECF

It's so important that Pierce step into a supportive role. I wish he'd look at Garnett. Garnett shows that you can be in a supporting role and have one of the best seasons in years. Like Havlicek in the seventies. With the game built around Cowens, Havlicek could roam around and create havoc.
