The Good, the Bad,and the Ugly: Off season edition

Posted by shawn cassidy on August 8, 2012 at 11:15 AM

This became a post during the 2011-12 season, and I decided to do a off season version.

The Good

:D We all wanted him back, and Ainge finally brought back Dooling. He's a great glue guy on the bench. Biggest reason to have Dooling back? He's great for Rajon Rondo. He seems to get inside Rondo's head, and he knows how to speak with Rondo. Beside that, Dooling is a solid bench player. He will give you effort on the defensive end, and he will score here and there. Good re-signing by Danny.

:DBringing in Jason Terry was a great move. The hope was for Allen, and Terry. But Terry is a great replacement, and some may say that Terry is actually better right now between the both at this stage in their careers. Terry will be 6th man that we've craved since James Posey, and the scorer we've needed off the bench for a long time.

:D The sign and trade for Lee was big. It gave the Celtics two young tough shooting guards that can lock down Wade, and many other teams. Lee will more than likely start the season as the starting two guard. Unless Bradley is cleared to play. Even so, Lee is a great replacement for Ray as well.

:D Jeff Green was a disappointment for many during the 2011 season. He was looking to avenge the 2011 season in 2012. But the worst kind of luck struck Green, and he ended the season before it even started. Green needed heart surgery. Green re-signed with the Celtics for a hefty deal, and he looks to be the biggest X-Factor for the Celtics this season.

:D The Celtics stole Sullinger in my eyes. I think he can help right away. At the 21st pick this year. Many would have said that he was a top ten guy, and maybe even top five. But how many times have we seen a bust for most top ten players? Almost every season. Sully will get playing time, and hopefully he makes the best of it, and hopefully he can be a major impact right away.

:D Wilcox was another player that most of us wanted back. His connection with Rondo was the biggest, and of course it's hard to find a big like Wilcox. We also lost Wilcox for the season in 2012 because of heart surgery. I can't wait to see Rondo finding him on the break once again.

:D Save the best for last. None of the above would have been possible if KG walks out on the Celtics. Maybe the Celtics still sign Green, but this team would have moved on if KG leaves. KG is still one of the best power forwards in the game today. It's hard to say if he can continue to play at top guy level at his age. But I'll say he can do at least one more season. KG is the soul of this team.

The Bad

:( Not much to say on terms of bad Celtics moves. The only move I wish that may have happened? I still wanted Pietrus some way, some how, and was not to be. Of course the Celtics still could sneak him in, but very unlikely because of the camp invites.

The Ugly

 Of course this section is reserved for Ray Allen. He was the biggest disappointment of the off season. The Celtics look better without him on paper. But it still stings, because the Celtics could have still gotten better with him. But I have moved on from it, and I just want to beat him. Allen did show us how classy he's not after bashing Rondo, or perhaps leaking the information. But Allen showed he was a bratty diva in the Celtics locker room.

That's a dream that hope comes true for you. Cowens seems to be around the Celtics much more these days, but as a coach not yet.

Honestly, I suspect he wouldn't really sync that well with today's players. but I do think he could help sullinger some. As great as KG is, he has a different game

Ainge, thank you again for building a smart contender.
