Lee+Camby, and Mayo targets for the Celtics

Can the Celtics work on a sign and trade for both players? That would be a good deal if the Celtics can land Lee, who will replace Ray in a sense, and Camby can allow the Celtics to move KG back to the four. The only question I have about Camby, is if he can hold up. He's not like JO, or Shaq, but we've had some bad luck with older big men, and we've had some good ones like PJ Brown, and we had some good moments with Sheed.
ESPN
"The Boston Celtics have emerged as a serious suitor for Courtney Lee after coach Doc Rivers met with the free-agent guard Saturday night, according to sources familiar with Boston’s thinking.
Sources told ESPN.com that the Celtics, in the wake of losing sharpshooter Ray Allen to the Miami Heat, have ratcheted up their pursuit of Lee as a possible replacement.
Lee averaged 11.4 points per game for the Houston Rockets last season and hit 40 percent of his 3-point attempts.
The Celtics don’t have the salary-cap space to sign Lee outright, but sources say the Rockets have let it be known that they’re willing to participate in sign-and-trade deals with both Marcus Camby and Lee amid the increasing likelihood that neither of those coveted free agents will be returning to Houston."
The Celtics are also rumored to be looking at Mayo again. They can't sign him, the cap space is gone, they can work on a sign and trade, but that's unlikely because the salary doesn't match-up with anyone that could be traded.
CSNNE“The Celtics still have interest in OJ Mayo, and right now they are not the position to give OJ the kind of money he’s looking for,” Blakely said. “But certainly with sign-and-trade possibilities then all of a suddent OM becomes a player the Celtics might make a run at.”

Mayo was the one who refused the trade back in March, which is cited as one of the reasons Allen left. If Mayo does not want to play in Boston, why does Danny insist on trying to make it happen anyway? The Grizzlies aren't in bad shape on cap, but refused to make his qualifying offer and have cut his minutes each of the last 2 seasons. Maybe they are making a mistake. I tend to think where there is smoke, there is fire.

Like I said in the other post, we need a center and a shooting guard. A sign and trade with Houston could solve both, especially with the cap issue. Also, Lee can play SF as well, so he wouldn't be unneeded when Bradley comes back.

I guess I just don't agree that we need a center and a shooting guard. I think we would LIKE one of each - I presume you mean an established one in each area. I think Wilcox and Melo can back up KG at center. I think Moore and Pietrus can cover our SG spot. I'm not against making a deal, but I'm not sure how much I'd give up. I love Camby's rebounds and blocks and Lee sounds great. I'd love to have them. But how much do we have to give up? And are these the guys we REALLY want? If we are going to make a big deal, I'd maybe rather go for someone we really really want. But CAmby and Lee do sound awfully good.

Kg isn't a true center and doesn't like playing there. Wilcox isn't a true center and isn't signed yet. Williams is a true center, but only 6'10" and not guaranteed to be desirable. Melo of course is a question mark as to being ready. So, yeah I think we need one although he would not necessarily need to be an all star.
At SG, Terry could start until Bradley gets back, but then Moore would be the only back up (at this point). If Terry starts, who gives Rondo a rest? And what if there is a complication with Bradley's second surgery? Dooling could do it. Great defense, but who knows on the offense. Pietrus the same way. Plus what concerns me about Pietrus is he required a second surgery on the same knee within a year and he never seemed the same after his concussion. I like them both and like that they WANT to play in Boston. I am just afraid of a repeat of last year where we again get no points from the bench. Here too, I think another guard is called for. We were already planning on one in Allen. So it is not like it is a big detour from the original plan.

I forgot to mention about what to give up. Houston seems to be obsessed with getting Dwight Howard and seems to think a ton of draft picks are what it will take. Boston has one 1st round in each of the next five years, and for the 2nd round we have 3 in 2013, 2 and a protected in 14, 1 and a protected in 15, 1 in 16, 1 and a protected in 17, and 1 in 18. With 5 picks from the last two years already stacking up on the roster, it could be a good time to start dealing some of them.

I'm for dealing picks, but only if it's for somebody we really want running with Rondo. Is Lee that player? Mayo? I'm not so sure. Do we want one of those guys running alongside Rondo for the next three years? I thought we were going to have Bradley there. It just seems to me a lot like going out hunting for deer and firing off all your bullets at squirrels.
