Celtics Morning Joe: Sources Ray Allen leaving for Miami

Posted by shawn cassidy on June 27, 2012 at 11:00 AM

I'm a sucker for shooting, so I feel in  love with Ray Allen right away when the Celtics traded for him, and when the Celtics pounded the Wizards on opening night in 2007. Skipping five years later. Ray is a champion, and he's become the greatest three-point shooter of all time. He's set countless records, and now he seems likely to leave Boston. A city that has embraced him. But also a GM that has disgraced him. Maybe their is a other story. The blame was put onto Rondo's lap, but I think it goes further than that. Maybe it was Danny's ways.

I will lose some respect for Ray, and if the Celtics are willing to pay Ray more than the 3 million the Heat can pay. Than shame on Ray. Maybe the relationship of the Big three wasn't as strong as we thought. Is Ray really driven by jumping onto the Heat bandwagon? Ray Allen will become hated in Boston right? So many questions are turning in my head. I know I will feel betrayed, but I'm also sure that Ray felt that way about Danny. Ray Allen will say this if he leaves. He will say that he did it for his family, and maybe he is, but it's a good PR move by any player, who will catch some flack. Loyalty is a two way street, and it goes both ways. If Danny hurt his relationship with Ray, it's on him at the end of the day. I think since that the Celtics are looking at guys like Jamal Crawford. I think that's a sign of the end.

Alex Kennedy  @AlexKennedyNBA The general consensus around the NBA is that Ray Allen will sign with Miami. "Barring a change, he'll join the Heat," said a league source.

Don't like the choice in teams, but Danny messed up.

Ultimately I blame Danny for both KG and Ray leaving, but they are both dead to me now, and I can't wait for them to be gone.

And I wont' be sad if Pierce goes to.

It's time for a clean sweep. It didn't have to be this way. Ainge screwed up, but so did the Big Three.

Now I want them all gone. And I hope the fans give them hell whenever they come back with whatever teams they end up on.

I liked Ray in Milwaukee. I liked him in Seattle. I liked him in Boston. I hate the Heat more than the Lakers, but I will probably still like Ray, except when they play Boston.

He should really be effective for them. Can you imagine Lebron dishing to Allen? Wow. He could average 20 per game off Lebron.

Could have done that off Rondo too, though, had he not been a *** about Rondo taking leadership.

From 99-07 he averaged between 21 and 26 points a season, so 20 is certainly doable. He only went 16-18 in Boston, but that was more about fitting in to the style of play.

He should just feed and feed and feed of Lebron and Wade attacking the basket. If Miller can set up, and Battier, and so on, then so can Ray.

However Battier is a top defender and Allen isn't . Different position, but it could limit Allen's playing time

I tell y'all, nothing is a done deal at this point, so there is no point in acting like it is. I mean, Miami can offer him 3 million and the bench, the very same as us. At the end of the day, it's going to be dollars, comfort of not having to move and history - good and bad - from us or a major shot at another ring from them.

What he chooses, of course, is up to him. I have a hard time being angry with him given the nature of how the NBA works. I just want Avery Bradley to lock his ass up on the perimeter if he chooses to leave.

And, well, KG is staying, I feel. So is Pierce. So it's going to be a mix of new and old coming in next season.

The draft is in a bit more than 24 hours. I'm excited to see what Ainge can get done. Some quiet rumblings say he could detonate the whole thing.

I don't think KG is staying. We'll see. I'm not sure I want him to stay, or Pierce. I want to see a clean sweep.

Keep Rondo and Bradley and start from there.

Pierce doesn't even quite have the option of not staying, barring a trade or retirement, either of which are unlikely IMO.

Well, he in fact has talked about retirement, as you know, and i think he may be traded. I hope he is.

Man I'm just not sold on any of this negativity with the big 3. I don't see KG retiring, he will come back strong for Boston. Pierce will retire as a Celtic. Ray I can understand but even still... he wants to be on a contending team. Did we not take the 2012 Champions all way to GAME SEVEN with a hobbled Pierce, Allen, & Pietrus? Then you have to add in the loss of Green, Bradley, Wilcox, (and I guess O'Neil). You do realize that we were the ONLY team to take Miami to seven in the playoffs?

Damnit we are a contending team. Even more so than Miami in my opinion. Their stars have youth and most of our ACTIVELY contributing cast were in their 30's trying their best to sustain throughout all the playoffs. It was valiant and inspirational that we got as far as we did with our injured vets and loss of our talented young ones. There was ZERO relief for these guys. We just kept on fighting until the fatigue finally caught up. (Poor KG) Fortunately for Miami, they got RESTED Bosh back in the end. We did not get our Bradley back.

And especially after we watch Miami take out the destined Thunder in 5 games, you know in the back of Celtic players and fans mind was, "That could have been us. That SHOULD have been us." We all know, hell the whole NBA knows it. A healthy Celtics team = DANGEROUS. And I feel next year, we will be even better.

Boom! There's my rant.

You may be right. I hope the Big Three come back, though I don't want it to be for too much money.

Speaking of too much money... is there any way Pierce's contract could be renegotiated? What's he make? 16 mil? **** that. He is not worth that amount at all anymore.

You'd think he might be willing to renegotiate to help the team, but of course, we all know that won't happen. Yet we are supposed to worship him, or we aren't good fans.
