Do we realize how lucky we are? That Ray Allen is coming off the bench again. Without him the Celtics bench has been lacking any scoring. With him they have an instant 12 points or more. The bench without Ray averages a mere 12 points per game, and that number is off because Daniels picked up some time in game four. Pietrus has been a big disappointment so far. Maybe he's dealing with too many injuries, for him to really breakout for the Celtics. Dooling has been playing up to his potential off the bench. He's the second leading scorer with 4.5 points per game. Some of the problem has been lack of playing time for some guys, but with Ray the Celtics reach an entire different level.
If Ray can't go for much longer. The Celtics are in big trouble. Maybe Pietrus breaks out of his slump. Which I think he will. I think Daniels will play a key part in the playoffs. Greg Steamroller has been also bothered by his foot injuries, and his impact has been unnoticed. When you look at the other playoff teams remaining. The Celtics are not the only team without depth. The Lakers only use 8 guys for example, and when Ron gets back maybe they'll use 9.The Celtics have a strong 8 man rotation. With Allen, Pietrus, and Dooling off the bench. Someone outside of those three will need to play a bigger part at some point. But right now we should be very thankful for Ray Allen. Because who knows if we even win game three without him. I do believe in this bench, and guys need to stay ready for playing time. Hollins has given some solid effort while playing, and the same will be asked of the rookies if they somehow see playing time. All I know is that the Celtics bench needs Ray, and the others need to remain ready for anything.
