If tough player's grew on trees, the Celtics would have all of them. The Celtics keep fighting, and it doesn't matter if Ray has bone spurs, and if Pierce has a knee problem, or if Bradley has a stinger in his shoulder. Hell before the playoffs. Rondo, and KG had their bumps, and I'm sure they still do. It just doesn't matter what hurts, because they keep fighting.
Bradley caught fire under Boston's offensive outburst with consecutive hoops early in the first quarter. He went cold soon after and connected on just 2 of 7 shots overall, but Boston's beat down allowed Bradley to rest. Ray has been the perfect player coming off the Celtics bench, and so far his ankle is holding up.
Kevin Garnett was asked about Allen since returning from right ankle woes.
"I don’t know if you guys follow astrology and all the things with the moon and stuff. But I think the moon’s the biggest that it has ever been today," Garnett said of Saturday's Supermoon. "Ray missed a free throw [the other night] that was just like seeing that moon." Which is a roundabout way of saying it's rare and rather unbelievable.
It was weird seeing Ray miss two freebies, but Ray has looked solid. Allen was able to play just 19 minutes. Ray added12 points on 5 of 9 shooting (2 of 3 beyond the arc) off the bench. That's exactly what the C's need off the bench.
“I feel surprisingly great," he said. "I’m really managing my off days really well. And you have a tendency when you get back off of an injury, you kind of let it slide a bit and I haven’t been. And it’s important to me to rest up, just staying off of it."
Pierce admitted his knee felt "sore" and "tender", and we found after the game that Pierce hurt his knee in shoot-around. Pierce thankfully only played 16 minutes, but man those 16 minutes were action packed. Pierce scored 24 points off of 10-of-13 shooting.
"I kinda sprained it this morning, then I aggravated it today in the game," said Pierce. "I’m glad we were able to get a win like this, give me some rest. We'll get me a couple days off, I can get some treatment and hopefully it feels good on Tuesday."
"I kind of tripped over someone’s foot, turned the knee [in shootaround]," said Pierce. "I had to sit around the last half of shootaround and, tonight, I just kind of re-aggravated it when I came up off the double screen with Josh Smith there. It’s a little bit sore right now, so Doc just wanted to take precautions tonight, especially when we had such a big lead. That allowed me to go back in the fourth quarter, get treatment and rest for the next couple days."
Rivers admitted that when he left the shootaround, he wasn't certain the team would have Pierce.
"When I left shootaround, I probably thought he was not going to play," said Rivers. "And [team trainer] Eddie [Lacerte] said, ‘Let’s see, let’s give it a try, and see how he feels.’ I talked to [Pierce] right before the game, I asked him, ‘What do you think?’ And he said, ‘Well let me just try to warm it up and see how I feel.’
I'm very shocked that the Pierce injury didn't leak out. The postseason seems to be like an up hill battle of teams that can stay healthy. I feel like I'm going to smile. Like nothings wrong, like everything's perfect. Act like the injuries are all a dream/ And pretend it's not hurting me.But I remains in my mind regardless of what I want.
