Celtics by the Numbers: Rebounding has improved against the Heat

Posted by shawn cassidy on April 3, 2012 at 11:35 AM

The Celtics held the Heat to 72 points Sunday, and the Heat's season average is 101 points  per game. The Celtics used the backcourt as the defensive starter Sunday, and it worked to perfection. Miami is the best shooting team in the NBA with a field goal percentage of 48%. The Celtics held them to 35% shooting for the game. The Celtics are the best in field goal percentage defense only allowing 42% per game. The Celtics are ranked 5th in the NBA in field goal percentage at .458%, and they shot 47% Sunday.

The Celtics held the Hear's backcourt to 9-of-33 shooting Sunday. Big difference from the first game, and another big stat that changed from the fist meeting of the season were the turnovers by the Celtics. They cut it nearly in half. Befor garbage time the Celtics only had 12 turnovers. In the first meeting the Celtics had 22 turnovers, and the Heat scored 33 points off of that.

Offensive rebounding was a major issue for the Celtics. The Heat grabbed 15, and the Celtics only had 5 for the game. But some good news from rebounding for the Celtics they tied the Heat with 45 rebounds apiece.

A surprise to me was that the Celtics only had 21 assists on Sunday. Their ranked number one in the league with 23.65 per game. Rondo had 14 Sunday as all of you know by now.

Some great team stats by the Celtics. The defensive numbers need to remain their for this team.
