Celtics Blog Post New Entry

Mavs Romp, 89-73

Posted by paul on February 20, 2012 at 10:20 PM

The story of this defeat is pretty similar to those of other recent defeats, in that the Mavs ruled the Celtics in the paint.  They outrebounding the Celtics,  loading up with offensive rebounds.  Surprisingly, Pietrus pitched in with 12 rebounds.

Defensively the Celtics did ok.  On offense, they continued the recent pattern of relying heavily on jump shots, while not attacking the basket enough, and they had a lot of turnovers.   Final numbers in the box score don't reflect the game, as there were six minutes of garbage time.

Nowitski had a big game, with 26 points (21 in the first half) and 16 rebounds.

Together the two teams shot an astounding 49 3s!  They combined to hit 14 of those 3s!

The Celtics had 17 assists.  That's not a good number for them.  Paul got his 20 points.  Allen had 15.  Johnson and Moore unleashed torrents of shots in garbage time.  Bradley had 12 points on 6-11 shooting.  He was third in shots taken, and he seemed to have a lot of confidence, despite being blocked several times.  Wilcox only had 3 shots, which I think reflects the lack of attacking the basket going on.

What struck me, of course, was that Bradley led the team in shots taken for most of the first half, as I recall, and had about as many FGA as the rest of the team for most of the first quarter. One can't make this kind of stuff up, can one? When your starting point guard who is a brilliant scorer is in there, you rip his head off if he shoots!

I know were missing a lot of people but this is the first time we faced a contending team without rondo and they got hammered when we faced them with him for us to stay alive in those games he had to average a triple double i knew this game was lost at the opening tip, now i might sound like a rondo fan more then a celtic im just sick of this constant trade talk and rumors he did a stupid thing but didnt pierce do stupid things in his past he never got traded so why should he, ride this team out danny and rebuild in the draft and free agency this summer.

It's time to trade Rondo because the team clearly won't play for Rondo, and because Pierce clearly will never even try to learn to allow Rondo to take the lead role, and because Ainge needs to stop jerking Rondo around.

But, in a world where our GM wasn't married to his cell phone and his coffee cup, I think Rondo would be made co-captain, and it would be made clear to all that he is here to stay, and that if you want to stay, you learn how to play with him. That's how it should be. But that's another universe

I would love to see Bird come here as gm to replace Danny. I think Bird has patiently and carefully built multiple winners in Indiana, and I think he could do a lot more here. And I think he would not consider trading Rondo away for a moment.

I think he would require that Doc either go, or bring in some strong assistant coaches. Doc can be a fine coach. With the right people alongside him.

People on other sides don't like the way I focus on Rondo. Well I think they are nuts. If one is watching the Celtics right now and one doesn't get it that Rondo is the key, in my opinion, one has lost the plot.

I just want danny to ride it out making a trade for the sake of making a trade isnt gonna do any good you rebuild after the season and maybe you get young players who will run and respect rondo and resign jeff green and start him over pierce, listen i love pierce hes been my fav player since he came into the league he just doesnt have the same explosion anymore and i think he could be a great 6th man.

My first NBA game ever to attend and it turns out to be the letdown of 2012. Rondo, Bass and Garnett not on the court leads to a god awful embarrassment of a loss. Mavericks fans screaming in my ear about how old this group is and how much we suck now... Unpleasant. What a waste of money. And let's just put a cherry on top to see O'neal and Wilcox injure themselves in the 3rd quarter.

Pathetic.

Sorry man, It's always rough. Let's be honest the league should just find guys money, and not suspend them. For fans like, you, and I who pay to watch them.

I still believe that Paul and Rondo could be fantastic together, but Paul, have a little humility, man! Let the young lion roar some!

I'm sorry it worked out that way. A dedicated fan deserves better.

I think Love should have been suspended. But in this case, they ought to have fined Rondo and suspended the ref.
