Tommy had it right about Rondo

Posted by shawn cassidy on February 11, 2012 at 1:15 AM

Rondo's personal hell must be a playbook with a bunch of set plays. All he sees is a bunch of restrictions, and rules that tie him down. Rondo is like an artist who needs to find a 9-5 job, but he does a horrible job because it's something he doesn't want to do. Tommy made a comment during last nights game, about  how Rondo doesn't work well in set play's. I'm starting to believe the Celtics are the wrong fit for Rondo. They want him to change who he is to better the team, but it's not possible for Rondo. He's to good to be tied down to set plays for the entire game. Give me your thougts. Would Rondo be better off next season with the Celtics? Or should the Celtics let him go this season?

Rondo needs to recover- Boston Herarld.com

As the Celtics  point guard admitted to Doc Rivers during halftime of an 86-74 loss to the Toronto Raptors, he was playing horribly. He had, for example, five turnovers in the first half, though he went error free during the last 24 minutes.

“To his credit, at halftime he said, ‘Man, I’m playing like crap.’ And I said, ‘That’s fine, but keep playing,’ ” Rivers said. “Even if you don’t play well, it can’t affect your energy and your effort, because everyone is always watching on your team.”

i say you ride it out hes had a couple of bad games but so has everyone else and im glad he said he was playing like crap in past years he would never say that, but if he comes out sunday or next few games and starts playing well again this goes out the window and people stop hating on him until he has another unfantastic game and people will go trade him! Its a whirlwind i for some reason think hes gonna be here by the end of this year call me crazy he does now i could be completely wrong but i believe and if they make the playoffs(assuming they will) theres no pointguard in the league i rather have come playoff time.

I think the move has to be made. As far as I can see, it's Danny's and Doc's fault. Danny has consistently undermined Rondo by shopping him around, making it impossible for Rondo to settle in with this team and really make it his own team. Just yesterday Rondo had to endure Bill Simmons, a national figure, calling for him to be traded, and Washburn, a globe writer whose words can be taken as almost official (seeing as contemporary 'journalists' are basically nothing more than mouthpieces) stated flatly that Danny does not see Rondo as a player to build around; all this after having been denied a berth on the allstar team. How can anyone be a team leader under those conditions? You can't. And it's all the worse for someone with a sensitive ego. Fans blast Rondo for that, but Red knew that some players have more sensitive egos than others. I think I recall reading that he never said a harsh word to Cousy. He knew that different players motivate in different ways.

And then there's Doc. As far as I can see, Doc's system hasn't changed over the years as personnel have changed, and, in particular, as Rondo has grown into much more than a role player. He's so obsessed with his playbook and with execution, those are important things, but there are other aspects to the game.

I think the team should commit to Rondo and work through this. But Danny won't do that.

I really don't get this: why this is Rondo's fault...? When is obvious that he's play is restricted by Doc and by Paul and Ray?
The only hope for Rondo to play his great basketball is to leave Boston. This might be the Big 3 final season together, but Doc and Paul will still be here next year. And Rondo's problems and restrictions, as well. They will never let him be the general on the flour, really.

To me it's like a family situation, where a good honest talk might clear the air, but no one seems to be up for it. Deeply buried resentments have gone past the point where they can be talked out. I think both sides, Rondo and the Celtics, need to restart. They can do this together if they can talk things out, but otherwise, separate directions are needed

Who or what would be the restart factor, Paul? Who would be that wise mind within the Celtics organization, to talk things out?

The kink in the system is that P, Ray and KG are older, and obviously not as quick and effective. Ray needs two screens sometimes to get free for a shot. When they get tired, their shots just don't fall. Therefore, there are lulls in their offense and Rondo can't consistently help out. With Rondo being a playmaker and not a shooter, this system just is not working like it used to. It's not Rondo's fault, it's just that the fit is wrong. He needs young bodies that can run with him. If they traded him (for his benefit), who in the world would you get for him this season?? And with his injuries, he doesn't look real attractive right now. I say, ride it out, Danny. Team meeting, not trade. Real happy to see Pietrus come on board. LOVE Brandon Bass! Sure would be nice to get one more piece before the playoffs.

I don't see anyone, Cisco. That's what really sucks, and that's why I fear that this situation,as it plays out, is going to become uglier and uglier.

And I think Rondo CAN shoot now. He's maybe not a shooter yet, but he's a better shooter.
