“Today was better than Detroit,” said Rivers. “I guess that’s the positive. “Better than Detroit.”
I agree with you Doc, but title contenders don't lose games like these, and the Celtics aren't title contenders, so I guess they lose games to anyone now.
In a game where the lead was being regularly exchanged, Cleveland broke serve on a play that seemed almost poetic for a Celtics team in trouble. Jared Sullinger slapped the rebound of a Kevin Garnett miss deep into the backcourt, and Rondo saved the ball right to Irving, who rolled in a layup for 86-83 with two minutes left.
“He should have (held onto the ball),” said Rivers of Rondo, “but he’s trying to make a hustle play. It was a big play, gave him a layup, gave them the cushion. But I still go back to what I told our guys. Even if Rondo saves it to Kyrie, there should have been two other guys waiting under the basket defensively, and we had no one back.
Good job sticking up for Rondo Doc. I'm sure on other sites, the fans as we speak are bashing Rondo because Irving went off for 40, but Rondo still had a good game regardless of Kyrie going off. Rondo wanted this game, and it looks as if Doc, and Rondo's words went on def ears. I think the real issue with this team could be the small forward position on, and off the bench. That's one of the issues, and that's an issue that's really forming right now. Pierce was 3-of-15 against the Cavs, and it's another bad game by Pierce.
“Obviously you don’t throw the ball to Kyrie, but my question for the team, ‘Where was everyone else?’ You know, Rondo ran from under the basket to under the basket, and when he saved the ball there was no one to save it (to). No one was there. That’s right now where mentally we’re just not there for 48 minutes.”
Said Rondo, “I tried to make a play. He made a better play.”
But could anything else be expected in these dark Green days?
“When you’re in a funk, you try to throw the ball off a guy, and he catches it,” said Rivers. “I mean, that’s what happens. You’ve got to make your own breaks, and we’re going to have to make ours.”
The Celtics are making things hard, and we may have over hyped this team, and it's hard to trust this team. Their are so many highs, and lows, and it's a ride we all hate. The Celtics win 6 in a row, and then lose 4 in a row. What kind of team is this? Well the record says that there an 8th seed at best.
The Celtics don't seem to care win or lose. I feel like the team has turned off Doc, and the talent level is here in Boston, but not good together. Danny's phone is on, and he's turned on the ringer.
